The Barbers Association of Nigeria have emerged victorious in the 2022 Aderinokun Unity Cup for Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.
The Barbers secured a 9-8 penalty shoot-out win over the Association of Bricklayers after both teams settled for a goalless draw at the end of 90 minutes.
Goalkeeper Adedeji was hero for the Barbers as his save in the sudden death round sealed the trophy for his Association.
It was a promising start to the anticipated game with both teams making attempts to break the deadlock, but the goalkeepers gave a good account of their abilities.
In the third-place game, the Association of Electricians showers resilience by coming from two goals down to draw Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) for a 2-2 draw.
They crowned the spirited performance with a 5-4 win in the penalty shoot-out.
PDP Senatorial candidate in Ogun Central District and co-founder of Olumide & Stephanie Aderinokun Foundation, 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐎𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐀𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐤𝐮𝐧 was present to fulfill the promise of ₦250,000 to the winning team while the runners-up got ₦150,000 then the third-placed team -Association of Electricians got ₦100,000 after beating National Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) 5-4 on penalties.
Meanwhile, the other 17 teams that participated in the competition walked home with a token of ₦25,000 each.
Chief Aderinokun was joined at the event by dignitaries including former Chairman of Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Chief (Mrs.) Olabosipo Ogun an, former Commissioner of Co-operative in Ogun State, Hon. Lekan Tejuoso, former Permanent Secretary at the Office of the Governor of Ogun State, Mr. Abayomi Bajela, PDP House of Assembly candidate in Obafemi-Owode State Constituency, Engineer John Tosin and PDP executives from the Southwest, state and local government.
